Students from Christ the King Primary and St Monica's Primary working together on design ideas

Students from Christ the King Primary, North Rocks and St Monica’s Primary, North Parramatta have been working together on an exciting digital design project that will be installed in a new play area for children at Westfield shopping centre, North Rocks.

The schools were approached by Westfield to design a large-scale mural to provide the backdrop for the new Fun Lab play area at the North Rocks centre. Teachers at St Monica’s and Christ the King selected 10 students from Year 6 to take part in the project.

Principal of Christ the King Primary, Annelise Stockey, said the partnership is a great opportunity for the students to work collaboratively and make new friendships.

‘This is the first time the students have come together to work collaboratively with another school and it’s proven to be a great success,’ said Annelise.

Christ the King Primary teacher, Patrick Vidot, said students would gain skills using Adobe Illustrator software which will be an advantage when they go to secondary school.

'All the students are getting an idea about the design process,’ said Patrick. ‘They are learning what a design brief is and what will work for a target audience.’

‘They’re also getting an understanding of copyright issues and creating original artwork,’ he said.

Christ the King Primary Year 6 teacher, Helen Nafranowicz, said the project was the first that allowed her students’ work to be seen by the whole community.

‘They will see their own work every time they visit the shopping centre and know that their work has an audience beyond the school community which is something they can be very proud of,’ said Helen.

The mural will be unveiled at the Fun Lab at Westfield North Rocks in early April.

We were honoured today to welcome Mother Hilda Scott from the Benedictine Order to our school of Christ the King. Mother Hilda graced us with her wisdom and kindness as she spoke to our students about the profound love of God, emphasising that each and every one of us is cherished and called by name. Her words touched our hearts and reminded us of the infinite grace that surrounds us. In a special session with our Year 6 students, Mother Hilda inspired them to be peacemakers and ambassadors of God's love in the world. She encouraged them to spread kindness, compassion, and understanding, fostering a spirit of harmony and unity wherever they go. It was a truly uplifting experience for our school community, and we are grateful to Mother Hilda for sharing her insights and faith with us. Let's carry her message of love and peace in our hearts, making a positive difference in the lives of others. πŸ™ #MotherHildaScott #BenedictineOrder #GodsLove #Peacemakers #ChristTheKingSchool #jamberooabbey
