On Wednesday, the 21st of August, Christ The King hosted four schools for the Voice of Youth cluster final in the Mary MacKillop Parish hall. The visiting schools were St Monica’s North Parramatta, St Mary’s Rydalmere and St Bernadette’s Dundas. Each school selected three students to present their speeches in front of an audience of 200 students, teachers and parents.
Voice of Youth offers each student in Year 6 the opportunity to talk about a topic or subject that interests them. Speeches this year ranged from social justice issues to historical disasters. Students research, prepare and practice their speech before delivering it in front of peers and teachers. The best from each school then participate in the cluster final.
Christ the King was represented by Isabella Y who spoke about doping in sport, Olivia K who spoke about organ donation and Emma M who spoke about war. All three students spoke exceptionally well as did the representatives from the other schools. It was a very difficult decision by the judges to pick a winner. After much deliberation, the judges eventually came to a decision and Olivia K was awarded the best speech for the day.
We would like to congratulate Olivia on a fantastic achievement as the 12 speeches were of a very high quality. Olivia will now present her speech at the Diocesan semi finals in September to try and move to the final for Voice of Youth. Congratulations to Isabella and Emma for their fantastic speeches also.
Thank you to Mr Hughes, who was the MC for the day and to the parents who supported the students not only at the cluster final, but also throughout the process of writing and rehearsing speeches.
