Over the year the Sydney Academy of Chess run chess lessons every Wednesday after school through the Term. We have a regular group of students who attend each week ranging from Kindergarten through to Year 6. Chess is also a popular activity in the library at lunch time.
Last term we had two very talented students, Louis Year 5 and Caleb Year 4 attend an inter-school chess tournament. They both competed extremely well with Louis coming in 3rd overall on the day out of over 100 players! Congratulations to both boys on representing our school so well.
Earlier this term, 33 students attended the Hills District One Day Chess Team Tournament at Murray Farm Public School. Ably supervised by Mrs Atkinson, our students once again showed great sportsmanship and impressive skills whilst playing seven games in the day each. For many students, this was the first time they have played in a competition environment with chess timers.
On Thursday 21st November, 17students stayed back after school to compete for the Christ the King Chess Championships 2019. This is a hotly contested event with students using all the knowledge they have learnt through the year to triumph. This year’s Chess Champion are:

What a delightful sight it was to see our school adorned with an array of colourful and creative Easter hats during our recent Easter Hat Parade! Today, our students came together to showcase their imagination and craftsmanship in celebration of the Easter season. Even the Easter Bunny made an appearance! From the Kindergarteners to the Year 6 students, every member of our school community eagerly participated, donning their most festive and fabulous Easter hats. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation as we gathered to admire the creativity and flair on display. As our students paraded around the school grounds, their smiles shone as brightly as the sunshine above. It was a joyous occasion filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a sense of community spirit that embodies the essence of Christ the King.

What a special occasion it was to gather together as a school community for the Holy Week liturgy. All our students came together to commemorate the solemn and sacred journey leading up to Easter Sunday. We were honoured today to welcome Mother Hilda Scott from the Benedictine Order to our school of Christ the King. Mother Hilda graced us with her wisdom and kindness as she spoke to our students about the profound love of God, emphasising that each and every one of us is cherished and called by name. Her words touched our hearts and reminded us of the infinite grace that surrounds us. In a special session with our Year 6 students, Mother Hilda inspired them to be peacemakers and ambassadors of God's love in the world.
