Over the year the Sydney Academy of Chess run chess lessons every Wednesday after school through the Term. We have a regular group of students who attend each week ranging from Kindergarten through to Year 6. Chess is also a popular activity in the library at lunch time.
Last term we had two very talented students, Louis Year 5 and Caleb Year 4 attend an inter-school chess tournament. They both competed extremely well with Louis coming in 3rd overall on the day out of over 100 players! Congratulations to both boys on representing our school so well.
Earlier this term, 33 students attended the Hills District One Day Chess Team Tournament at Murray Farm Public School. Ably supervised by Mrs Atkinson, our students once again showed great sportsmanship and impressive skills whilst playing seven games in the day each. For many students, this was the first time they have played in a competition environment with chess timers.
On Thursday 21st November, 17students stayed back after school to compete for the Christ the King Chess Championships 2019. This is a hotly contested event with students using all the knowledge they have learnt through the year to triumph. This year’s Chess Champion are:

The Santiagos had a big week at the Art Gallery of NSW! ππ₯π Maella (Yr4), Santi (Yr2) and Sari (sibling) valiantly endured the exclusive Artists Lunch on Thursday, the high volume of the Opening Night on Friday and an early rise for the Collectors and Benefactors Breakfast on Monday. π¨π Our students claimed the attention in every room they walked through. They met and spoke with prize-winning artists, high ranking curators, art patrons, the odd celebrity here and there and they are now on a high-five basis with the Art Gallery of NSW director. They generously posed for every photo request and even delivered an artist talk with the Archibald's curator for the collectors and gallerists. ππ‘ And it's not over yet! Our last event will be Maella's Young Archies awards ceremony on the 24th June. Stay tuned for more photos then!π

May the Force (4th) Be With You! Students at CTK were treated to a Star Wars themed day, with all students seeing their name in a Themed - Opening Crawl Video (ask your chid/ren tonight). π πDarth Vader Hughes and Jedi Masters - Kroon and Kennaugh - roamed the school, with Princess Leia Cook always nearby. β ππ‘Mrs Brennan, Mr Gierek, Mrs O'Flynn, Mrs Bonnie Yeung and Mrs Atkinson were also joining the Force. Old student star post ππ Christ The King has always produced some amazing students both in academics and sport. Marcus Younis (class of 17) recently made his A League debut for the Western Sydney Wanderers. Marcus has had to deal with quite a few injuries that have hampered his progress to achieving his goals, but through perseverance, determination and hard work, he has overcome these obstacles and it is all paying off. Marcusβs sister Talia Younis (Class of 2020) has also been excelling in football. Talia recently travelled to Mongolia to represent the U/17 Young Matildaβs in the Asian Cup qualifiers against Mongolia and Chinese Taipei. At just 14 years old, Talia played a pivotal part in the sides victories, including scoring a goal. She will further represent the national side later on in the year. Congratulations Marcus and Talia on your wonderful achievements. CTK are proud of you and we look forward to watching you reaching the pinnacle of football. β½οΈβ½οΈ
