On Monday 2 May 2016 the Rotary Club, North Rocks held their annual Mother’s Day awards to celebrate local mums in the community.
As part of the celebration, Year 5 students from Christ the King Primary, North Rocks and North Rocks Public School were invited to participate in a writing competition entitled “My Mother, My Friend”.
A panel narrowed the submissions down to six students who were then invited, along with their families, to attend a special Rotary Club celebration at the Baulkham Hills Sports Club.
Event organiser Monika Tracey said the annual Mother’s Day awards offered students an opportunity to engage in their writing skills whilst celebrating their mums.
‘Each child read their story or poem to their mum, who was then presented with flowers, chocolates and a bottle of champagne, while the child was presented with a certificate,’ Monika said. ‘Dads and siblings joined us to make this an excellent night.’

Our Year 4 students have been busy designing and creating their very own insulated lunch boxes as part of our Science unit! 🧊📦 Students explored how different materials can help keep items cool, then put their designs to the test using an ice cube challenge. It was fantastic to see their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills in action as they worked to slow down the melting process. We were so impressed with the thoughtful designs and the way students evaluated and improved their ideas.
