Over the year the Sydney Academy of Chess run chess lessons every Wednesday after school through the Term. We have a regular group of students who attend each week ranging from Kindergarten through to Year 6. Chess is also a popular activity in the library at lunch time.
Last term we had two very talented students, Louis Year 5 and Caleb Year 4 attend an inter-school chess tournament. They both competed extremely well with Louis coming in 3rd overall on the day out of over 100 players! Congratulations to both boys on representing our school so well.
Earlier this term, 33 students attended the Hills District One Day Chess Team Tournament at Murray Farm Public School. Ably supervised by Mrs Atkinson, our students once again showed great sportsmanship and impressive skills whilst playing seven games in the day each. For many students, this was the first time they have played in a competition environment with chess timers.
On Thursday 21st November, 17students stayed back after school to compete for the Christ the King Chess Championships 2019. This is a hotly contested event with students using all the knowledge they have learnt through the year to triumph. This year’s Chess Champion are:

π¨β¨ Year 4 Painting Inspiration! β¨π¨ This week, Year 4 explored the incredible digital artwork of Lynette Wallworth, whose creations respond to movement and invite audiences to become part of the experience. πΏπ‘ Inspired by her work, our students created their own paintings β and believe it or notβ¦ they can react to movement too! πβ¨ If you use your imagination, you might notice colours shifting, shapes coming alive, or patterns dancing as you move past them. π₯β¨ Year 3 and 4 Shrove Tuesday Celebration! β¨π₯ Today, Year 4 marked Shrove Tuesday by learning about its meaning in the Church calendar and preparing our hearts for the season of Lent. Students explored why this day is traditionally a time for reflection, forgiveness and making good choices before Ash Wednesday. βοΈπ We discussed how Lent is a time for prayer, fasting and helping others, and how we can grow closer to God through our actions. CTK Student shineπ€© After successfully completing zone at the end of last year, some very talented Year 4 students competed at regionals up at Mingara. Archie competed in the 100m and 400m, William in the 1100m walk and Fraser in the high jump and discus.
